The Witcher's Casting Director Unfazed by Cavill's Exit, Found 'Almost All New Talent'

Jan 25, 2024

Despite the controversy surrounding the current state of The Witcher and the lead actor's exit, the casting director is happy to work with the "new talents" she found.

The Witcher 's TV series adaptation by Netflix has been closely watched by many groups of people since day one, and it's been a subject of constant debate.

With book fans frustrated with the poor adaptation and the new viewers confused by the messed-up timelines and events, few people were truly happy with the show.

Amid all this, Henry Cavill was largely considered the silver lining of the series for his brilliant performance and genuine passion: the actor's famous for being a proud geek, and playing Geralt of Rivia was a dream come true for him.

Not for too long, though, as the problems we're all familiar with started arising pretty soon.

Between the constant confrontation with the showrunner and the writers and his frustration with the production process, Henry Cavill announced that season 3 of The Witcher will be his last feature on the show, and starting from S4, there will be a new monster hunter in town. This utterly upset most of the fans, but not the executives.

The new Geralt of Rivia was already lined-up for the role, and the showrunner wasted no time after Henry's leave announcing the actor's successor.

The next person to have to learn proper sword-fighting will be Liam Hemsworth; but admittedly, he's far from the only new person to join season 4.

Recently, the casting director of The Witcher, Sophie Holland, revealed that she was working with an entire group of "young talents" she'd found for the show.

"I had a really lovely opportunity recently with a very special — almost standalone — episode of season four of The Witcher, which is exploring a completely new group of people. We were able to find almost all new talent. <...> You meet the characters in season three and then they come into their own in season four," shared Holland.

Despite her excitement about the new faces in the cast, Sophie was still asked about Henry Cavill's quit. The casting director refused to comment on that and swiftly moved on to complimenting the new Witcher, Liam Hemsworth.

But this is hardly surprising considering how neither the show's execs nor Cavill has commented on the conflict after all this time.
